Meet Olga Romero-Saavedra.
One of the original team members at our Bailey’s Crossroads location, Olga is such an ambitious individual that many of us find contagious. She is a back-of-house employee that is happy to work in any role and always always has a positive attitude! Olga hopes for opportunity as she continues to grow within District Taco and we can't wait to see where her journey takes her.
DT: What is your District Taco story?
ORS: I have been working here at DT for a little over 2 years now. When I first started, I had two jobs, this being my second. When this location first opened, I was hired as a team member and I have been here ever since. It has been a beautiful experience, to say the least.
What is your favorite position?
I really like all of the aspects of working here. My favorite positions are preparing the food as well as being on the line to make the customers’ orders. I have recently been assisting with new tasks, such as placing orders with the vendors we use at the store, which is different and exciting to learn.
Are you working towards any goals?
I would like to continue to move up within the restaurant. I am eager to learn and enjoy the different things I learn daily. I am currently learning how to do the deliveries and am enjoying that! I am not sure what will happen in the future, but I am very excited.
What do you like to do outside of working here at DT?
I am very dedicated to my family. I have two sons, 17 and 8. I am studying English outside of work in hopes of expanding my career opportunities with the company.
Why did you start working here?
I am originally from El Salvador, I came to the United States with my family for a new opportunity. The Bailey’s location was just opening so I decided to apply and was given the opportunity to join the team. I was trying to make a living and provide for my family, which is why I was working two different jobs at the time. However, I eventually became full-time at DT and haven’t looked back. It’s just a great company to work for and the people here have really helped me out.
What is the most challenging part of your job?
I speak very little English. Most of the time the hardest part of the job is the language barrier between myself, my coworkers, and the customers. However, I am not afraid to speak up and ask questions or ask someone to repeat themselves. I tell my team when I don’t understand what they are saying so that I can continue to learn.
I realized that I didn’t want my language barrier to set me back from future career opportunities. I am studying English outside of work twice a week in hopes to be able to better myself as well as improve my communication skills and become well rounded.
It wouldn’t be a DT employee spotlight without this question! What is your go-to meal at District Taco?
Los Tacos! Mis favoritos son con carne asada! Delicioso!
We asked both our Regional Manager and our General Manager at our Bailey’s location to tell me a little about how Olga is as a team member.
RM: “Olga always has a great attitude when she comes into work every day and a smile that never leaves her face. She is one of the most positive people at this location. She is always willing to learn new things whether it is a new position or how to place orders and deliveries. She’s even taking English classes outside of work to improve her career opportunities! She is definitely motivated and wants to continue to grow within the company.”
GM: “Olga has been with the company for a little over two years and is one of the originals who helped us open this location. In recent weeks she has gone above and beyond by becoming more of a leader among her peers. She now assists with placing all of our vendor orders and really has the experience to know projected amounts needed for these orders. Also striving for greatness in her personal life, she now goes to night school two days a week to learn English. She has been practicing here at work any and every chance she gets! She also recently earned her driver’s license and bought a car! This was something she would have never imagined could happen, but she is living proof that hard work and dedication can help you achieve any goal you set for yourself. And let’s not forget how pleasant it is to be around her! She is very lighthearted and upbeat. She's always keeping an open mind when learning new tasks and our customers love interacting with her. She can take any negative experience and turn it around with a bright smile on her face. This employee will be successful in anything she chooses to do.”
Wow, how inspiring! We hope that Olga's story inspires you as much as she inspires us! Be sure to stop into our Bailey's Crossroads location to see her smiling face and the rest of the DT Bailey's team in action!
